Fairy Tales Breakdown

Ah, fairy tales. I think every child starts here at some point. Kids love fairy tales (mostly watered versions of them, but still…that has meaning right there. Anyway, another day, another topic. And one thing you should know about people in general, kid or not: once they like something, they are going to try and find something similar to enjoy.

Little girls love Disney Princesses. I, for one, wanted more and more once I saw a few. I wanted to know everything abut it. I wanted to know the original, and, more importantly, I wanted more.

That led me to wanting to watch shows like Buffy and Charmed and let’s know forget a classic: Sailor Moon. They weren’t fairy tales, but it involved magic and the like, and I grouped them all up together. Decades later, I realize that they don’t go together, but still. It is important to follow paths. You never know where something might lead. Some places you regret going down that Rabbit Hole, but others, you would take the leap over and over again.

Currently, in this last decade or so, I have seen so MANY adaptations of fairy tales. Reboots and the like. It’s amazing and a bit exhausting. But you never really run out of stuff, you know?

Again, literature is just a big giant field. Honestly, it’s like closing your eyes, turning, and pointing, and you find something.

This comic book series is only for adults (from what I heard, I’ve never gotten into it).

The Sisters Grimm….taking the old fairy tales into the modern era with the background of these creatures are really people and the Brothers were…caretakers and detectives. Their descendants: imprisoners and jailers.

Just like on the other source pages: be wary and keep looking. Magazines, books, digital sources, etc etc. Read stuff even if you don’t think it may work. It doesn’t matter if you disagree with someone. In fact, that is good! Find something someone said and argue against it.

Don’t forget that sometimes resources that can be used can come from the show and its publishers not just scholars. Or, a source could be right in front of your face (with its name).

These are just a few examples of what you could use. There are so many resources out, but the problem is trying to find all of them. It is difficult trying to piece together what and where. It is why, in the future, I hope to create a database for this genre: for popular culture. So people don’t have to look at Google, databases, and every which way else. Yes, it will probably require you to visit a library, but what I want is to have a database that is RECORD of the resources as well as copies. Sometimes it won’t have anything but a record, but that’s ok. I want to have guides on my database that says: if the full text isn’t here, look here. But that is going to be years down the road. First, basic things like this.
